Elise Yuill Cohen
English singer songwriter and devotional artist Elise Yuill Cohen’s repertoire of story-telling conscious folk songs are enriched with her fascination of mysticism, philosophy and environmentalism. Her powerfully emotive voice guides listeners on a thought-provoking voyage, laden with tender, heartfelt tales of dreams, people, love, and life.
Elise’s first release: debut EP ‘A Thousand Angels’ Tears’ (2014) was produced by acclaimed artist Howard Jones, who Elise supported on his solo tour in 2016. Alongside the 14 UK tour dates, Elise launched an Indiegogo Crowd Funding Campaign raising over £10K to record and independently release of her first full-length album; titled ‘Scarlet Begonias’ produced by Peter Miles at Middle Farm Studios in her home county of Devon. The album was released in August 2017.
Since Elise began sharing original compositions in 2013, she has played numerous concerts and festivals across the UK and in Europe, including her first appearances at Glastonbury Festival (2015), and the sacred music festival Sound & Silence Corfu (in 2016 & 2017).
Alongside her life long passion for folk and traditional music (inherited from her Scottish and Irish ancestry), Elise discovered the Bhakti Yoga practice of chanting mantra while undertaking a yoga teacher training. After years of personal devotion to this ancient spiritual practice, Elise’s first taste of leading public Kirtan events, in yoga studios and at festivals across the U, was with the devotional band Ananda Murtaye. More recently throughout 2017, Elise has begun to hold Kirtan evetns independently, incorporating a wealth of new and original mantra-esque material, along with a vast collection of beautiful mantras gathered over the years from her travels and from friends. Early stages of preparation for her next record of this nature are well underway.
